Can an agent do email marketing?

MOSTLYAgent does it, you sign off

Mostly. Segmentation, lifecycle flows, personalisation and testing are agent work and benefit from an operator that never gets bored. Keep approval on anything going to your whole list.

Step by step

A job is never one task. Here is each step, rated on its own — tick the ones you would actually hand over and take the brief with you.

StepHand over?
  • Segment the list

    YES

On real behaviour, updated continuously, rather than a segment built once in 2023.

  • Build lifecycle flows

    YES

Welcome, onboarding, winback, abandoned cart — the flows everyone means to build.

  • Write campaign copy

    MOSTLY

Solid, on-brand once tuned. Rarely delightful.

  • Personalise at the individual level

    YES

Actual per-recipient relevance rather than a first-name token.

  • Run and read tests

    YES

And it will tell you the result was not significant, which humans dislike doing.

  • Send to the whole list

    HALF

Irreversible and public. Keep a human on the button.

  • Manage deliverability and consent

    MOSTLY

It follows the rules you set precisely. It has no instinct for where the legal line sits.

4/7 steps selected. Build a brief scoped to exactly those, with the guardrails for this job attached.

What still needs you

  • The final send
  • Consent and legal basis
  • Brand voice decisions
  • Anything about pricing or bad news

How this goes wrong

A personalisation token pulling the wrong field into 40,000 inboxes. It is irreversible, it is public, and it is the reason full-list sends deserve a human check no matter how good the agent is.

What it needs access to

  • ESP
  • Ecommerce or product data
  • Analytics
  • CRM

Read access to all of it, write access to as little as possible. Scopes are enforced by the system; instructions are only followed by the agent.

The prompt

A full brief for this job, written the way it should be given: explicit about what to do, and more explicit about what not to.

email-marketing.brief

You are my lifecycle email agent. Maintain behavioural segments in Klaviyo and keep them current. Build and run these flows: welcome, post-purchase, replenishment, winback at 90 days, and browse abandonment. Write copy in our voice using the guide in Drive. Personalise using purchase history — never invent an attribute you cannot verify from data. Always send yourself a test and check every merge field renders before anything queues. Run one A/B test per flow per month and report results, including when the result is not significant. Never send a campaign to the full list without my explicit approval on the exact final version.

Questions people ask

Does GDPR allow an agent to process my list?

Yes, with the same obligations you already have: a lawful basis, a data processing agreement with whoever runs the model, and no transfer outside your permitted regions. The agent changes nothing legally — it just makes it easier to do a lot of processing quickly.

Want the part that works actually running?

The brief above is the easy half. The other half is connecting it to ESP and Ecommerce or product data, holding it inside the boundaries on this page, and having somewhere the exceptions land where you will actually see them. That is what Ogento does.
