Can an agent do?

Can an agent do healthcare admin?

The administration, yes — scheduling, records, coding, correspondence and reminders. Anything clinical, and anything that touches a patient in distress, should not be automated. The regulatory bar here is higher than anywhere else on this site.

Healthcare has an enormous administrative burden and an unusually low tolerance for automated error, which makes it both the most valuable and the most careful application of agents. The rule that holds up: agents may handle information about care, never decisions about care. Patient data adds a hard compliance layer — GDPR special category data in the EU, HIPAA in the US — that has to be settled before anything is connected.

Questions people ask

Is this compliant with HIPAA or GDPR?

It can be, and not by default. You need a business associate agreement or data processing agreement with the model provider, data residency you can evidence, no training on your data, and full audit logging. Settle this before connecting anything, not after.

Can an agent triage patients?

No. Clinical triage is a regulated medical decision, and the failure mode is someone not being seen. Agents can gather information for a clinician; the assessment stays with the clinician.
